Thought about doing a season yourself?

featured in News & reviews Author Helen McGrory, Chamonix Reporter Updated

As the 2006/07 season draws to an end, peoples thoughts are inevitably turning to summer pastimes and holidays in the sun. However, if you're not quite ready for it all to end and have come to the conclusion that one or two weeks skiing is just not enough for you any more; maybe you should be thinking about doing a season yourself…..

For many people, doing a ski season has become the ultimate glamorous dream. 5 months spent in a spectacular mountain resort, skiing waist deep powder every day, riotous parties every night, tottie galore…….. Sounds like heaven, doesn't it? And it is! However, there's a bit more to the actual reality of doing a ski season than its glossy image will have you believe. But, with a bit of thought and forward planning, doing a season can be one of the best decisions you will ever make and it may open up a whole host of opportunities that you would otherwise never have considered.

Natives.co.uk is a website dedicated to the seasonnaire lifestyle and it is choc full of practical advice on doing a season from people who have been there and done it (plus many others who are still out there living the dream!). Since its launch in 1999, Natives has established strong links with all the key ski industry employers in Europe, North America and the Southern Hemisphere, as well as with the multitude of smaller, specialist operators out there. It is not only one of the key sites to visit when looking for seasonal work, Natives is also on hand to advise you on the type of opportunities available, where to go and even what to take with you if you really don't know where to start.

Each year, the Natives Winter Season Workshop provides specialist advice from a number of industry experts, covering a range of topics from finding a job to seasonal accommodation options, instructor courses and pre-season prep to driving in the mountains. Everything you could possibly want to know about doing a season, plus the chance to hear the first hand experiences of those who have already done it.

If you're serious about doing a season then now is the time to start thinking about next winter and putting plans into motion. So why not go along and find out more? The Natives Winter Season Workshop will be held on Thursday May 31st 2007 at Falcon Park near Crawley in Surrey. The course runs from 10am to 4pm and the whole day costs a mere £19.95 and that includes your own copy of the Natives Ski Jobs Book worth £10.99 on its own. With sessions limited to 15 people you can be sure to come away brimming with inspiration and ideas. If you can't make it to Crawley, then there will also be a number of “Mini-Workshops” held at the Birmingham, Manchester and London Ski Shows in the autumn.
