Two Dutch climbers swept away by wind-slab avalanche

Two young Dutch climbers descending from Mont Blanc on Tuesday evening, having lost their way and strayed from the usual route, were caught by an avalanche at 4000m on an exposed area of the mountain near the Mont Maudit. The result was a fall of 200m killing one of the climbers outright and seriously injuring the other.

Injured, the surviving climber headed for the Mont Blanc du Tacul to raise the alarm and was later exacuated to Sallaches hospital, as was the body of his companion.
