Cafe Bluebird Chamonix Review

Coffee shop serving classic homemade sandwiches, flapjacks & cakes

I love living in France and, mostly, I love the food...sometimes it can be hard being a vegetarian here but mostly I do actually love the food.

However, after a few years here you are in danger of getting a bit bored of baguettes and smelly cheese! Especially those baguettes that rip open the roof of your mouth...

Some days I dream of a soft white roll with really good cheddar cheese smothered in branston pickle, and most of my requests to visitors coming from the UK are for a supply of those items. Plus, for my meat eating buddies, the usual requests for bacon.

So finally as I entered the Cafe Bluebird yesterday, that dream came true!

Not only was I met with some friendly chat from the lovely young guy behind the counter but one glance at the menu and I was instantly ordering my cheese and pickle roll - yum! And with the tables laid out in front in the sunshine how could I resist a relaxing coffee whilst enjoying the stunning views over the Aiguille du Midi.

For the coffee snobs out there, let me tell you that you need look no further than the Cafe Bluebird for the best cup of coffee in town! For me the sign of a good coffee is when it is so tasty that I don't get my usual urge to heap sugar into it and this was the first coffee in Chamonix where I enjoyed every last gulp, 'sans sucre'!

I have heard from friends that the bacon rolls and home-made energy bars are the best thing ever to start a day in the high mountains (and since they open at 07:00 you can get in there before heading up the midi!) and so I figured I should try some of the home-baking for myself. With a selection of tiffin, carrot & apple cake and flapjacks, it was tricky choice, but having now sampled the flapjacks I will definitely be back to try out the others.

So altogether the perfect lunch spot for coffee, food, cakes and some sunshine!

However, the best is yet to come! Not only is all this on offer right here in our very own Cham Sud, but Cafe Bluebird also offer a 20% discount for locals by way of a loyalty scheme. So for the residents of Chamonix, you need to get yourself down there, grab a coffee and some food and let the loyalty begin!
