Trails over 2000 metres are still very snow covered

A 52 year old Belgian hiker was reported missing on Tuesday after he didn't return from a hike on Monday.

He had been hiking from the Plan d'Aiguille to Montenvers when it appears he fell. His body was found yesterday by the PGHM in the Couloir d'Orthaz. Rescue teams believe he must have fallen around 200 metres.

There is still a substantial amount of snow on the higher trails in the Chamonix Valley at the moment and the high mountain office have said that it will take several weeks before paths like the Grand Balcons will be snow free, especially with more snow arriving today and tomorrow.

Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends.
