Chamonix 2017 season ends with powder

Winter is back here in the Chamonix Mont Blanc valley

After what has felt like an early spring, the new leaves and buds were covered in a thick carpet of snow this morning in the Chamonix valley.

For the first time in more than a few years, it looks like the closing weekend in Chamonix will be all blue skies and fluffy powder snow...heaven. The season officially ends on Monday 1st May 2017 with the infamous Grands Montets Freeride Day - a day that will be filled with fun activities and entertainment, including a waterslide, zip wire and live DJ sets. But the final weekend, starting today, will certainly be one of the best yet.

Mid station at the Grands Montets ski area has seen 25cm of fresh snowfall overnight, whilst the top has had 35cm. All cable cars, gondolas and chairlifts are open and most of the main pistes are open, with the exception of the home run - Pierre a Ric, which is now shut for the season.

Avalanche risk is at 3, which is considerable, so please make sure you take care and have the necessary safety equipment with you (and know how to use it!) and stay safe in the mountains.

Check out the weather forecast for the upcoming weekend and don't forget to have a look at our Grands Montets webcam to see the latest conditions.
