Chamonix Climbing World Cup 2018 hangouts
Lead & speed climbing from July 11th to 13th
With the IFSC Climbing World Cup circuit on its way to Chamonix, town will be busy, so here's a quick rundown of some of the best places to eat, drink, and watch the action.
Every year, Chamonix hosts the Climbing World Cup with some of the best climbers in the world descend on the resort for three days of fantastic climbing action. The event coincides with Bastille Day, so there is always a party atmosphere in town, and plenty of fireworks. Whether you're spectating or participating, you'll need to eat (and drink). There's a wide range of restaurants in Chamonix to suit all tastes and budgets.
Bighorn Bistro
Situated in Chamonix Sud, Bighorn Bistro & Bakery offer quality home-made style cuisine that is beautifully presented, whilst maintaining a casual, friendly and relaxed atmosphere. They also offer a fine selection of craft beer, including three US beers on tap, a Brooklyn lager, a Brooklyn IPA, and a Farmhouse Ale from Kansas City. Watch out for their €17 steak night on Thursdays, for one of the best value ribeye steaks in town.
Monkey Bar & Restaurant
Also in the Sud, and a firm favourite with locals and tourists alike, Monkey has earned itself a reputation for good honest food, delicious specials, a friendly atmosphere and great prices. Open all day, you will never be disappointed if you turn up at the Monkey Restaurant door looking for a feed. From breakfast, brunch, lunch, snacks and dinner, there is something for everyone. Behind the bar, they've got a selection of lagers, ales, and craft beer from around the world, and a whole host of cocktails to choose from.
MBC
A short walk from the action at Place du Mont Blanc, the Micro Brasserie de Chamonix offers a wide range of beers brewed on site, as well as an extensive food menu. Keep a special eye out for their ribs night deal on Thursdays. Beers on offer range from the Blonde de Chamonix light pilsner (light, smooth, refreshing), via the Granite Pale Ale (amber, caramelly ale) through to hardcore Stout des Drus (rich, strong coffee/chocolate taste) and are all made from the finest malts, hops, and yeasts available without preservatives or additives.
Place du Mont Blanc
There will be food and drinks served on site (if a little more expensive) so you don't have to miss any of the action as the finals heat up. Although you might want to avoid the public toilets adjacent to the site on Avenue du Mont Blanc in favour of one of the local bars or restaurants. Stick around after the finals on Friday, July 13th, for the now annual fireworks display.
