The second section of the famous cable car which connects Chamonix and the summit of the Aiguille du Midi, starting at Plan de l'Aiguille, has suffered a series of problems affecting its cable in the last few months. After closing for the second time this summer in late August, we have just been told that service will not resume until December 2018.

A group of engineers will work to find out the causes of the cable's seemingly rapid deterioration. In any case, the current cable will have to be replaced. Therefore, the second section of the Aiguille du Midi lift will be shut throughout the autumn. The first section, linking Chamonix and Plan de l'Aiguille, will be open for the duration of the works.

The Flegere cable car will also remain open, offering panoramic views of the Mont Blanc range and access to some of the best hiking trails in the valley. The Skyway lift in Courmayeur (Italy) will also be available to holders of a Mont-Blanc Multipass of 2 to 21 days, as well as those in possession of a Mont-Blanc Unlimited season or annual pass.
