Chamonix Winter Events - What's Happening this Season

Freeride World Tour

The first big event on the 2016 agenda is the Freeride World Tour - a ski and snowboard competition that sees some of world’s best freeriders launching themselves down the gnarliest off-piste lines they can find. From Saturday 6th to Friday 12th February you’ll get to see plenty of the action as stages usually take place at the top of the Index at Flegere - keep an eye on our Chamonix news page for updates on what will be happening where.

Kandahar World Cup Skiing

We’re happy to see the legendary Kandahar World Cup ski competition back on the slopes of Les Houches this February! We’ll be there in our brightest bobble hats, hoping to get our faces on Ski Sunday, clanging cowbells like there’s no tomorrow… Gather at the Piste Verte on 20th February to see the world’s fastest skiers hammering down the specially iced slope. There’ll be all sorts of excitement going on at the bottom, but you may get the best view of all if you hike up the side to the bend where the racers often get some air as they fly past at high speed. The Kitsch Inn at the Bellevue lift station is the perfect place to grab lunch or a quick snack without missing any of the action.

Chamonix En Rouge Street Party

Chamonix En Rouge is your chance to party with the ski instructors of the ESF! Gathering at the Maison de la Montagne (near the tourist office) at 6pm on Friday 26th February, there will be music and entertainments followed by a firework display. No French street party is complete without a giant tartiflette and you also have the chance to win a few goodies in the raffle.

Reggae Festival

Les Houches invites you to something a bit different from the typical apres-ski - a reggae festival! Amadou & Mariam, TAÏRO, Manudigital, Maya Vibes, Rage Against the Marmotte and Reverse Side Sound System will be playing from 20:30 on 27th and 28th February at Espace Olca - tickets are 20€ in advance or 25€ on the door.

Run & Skate Competition

The annual Run & Skate takes place on Sunday 6th March this year - a cross-country skiing and trail running race that takes place in the snowy forests of Chamonix and Argentiere. The course is a 14km cross-country ski followed by an 11km trail run, which can be done individually or as a relay team. The start/finish line is in the field behind the Ski de Fond chalet, conveniently right opposite the MBC for burgers and beers - the post-race nutrition of champions.

Chamonix Adventure Festival

This weekend saw the opening of entries for the Chamonix Adventure Festival, a film competition with the emphasis on the great outdoors and the spirit of adventure. Entries must be submitted by this Wednesday 20th January; they'll be viewed and judged with all those that make the grade being unveiled in March. More than just a film competition, the Chamonix Adventure Festival is a celebration of all things crazy, fun, creative and inspiring. Many of the films will be shown on massive outdoor screens in Chamonix town centre from Thursday 31st March until Saturday 2nd April. There will also be workshops held throughout the week on various aspects of photography and filmmaking - they’re always very popular so book your place now if you want to take part.

Chamonix Unlimited Festival

The Chamonix Unlimited Festival is 5 days of hedonistic electro fun in the mountains during the day and in the bars and clubs during the night. Kicking off on Thursday 7th April, there is a fantastic line-up of concerts and parties right through until Monday 11th April. Many of the events will be free to go to, some are ticket-only, tickets can be bought in advance here.

Freeride Days Closing Party

Although the date has not yet been confirmed for this winter's Freeride Days, the big end of season party usually takes place at Les Grands Montets on the penultimate weekend of the season - making this year’s the weekend of 23-24 April. Expect DJs, fancy dress, BBQ, rail contests, prizes and, of course, the legendary water slide! The party usually carries on long after the pistes have closed, in the bars of Argentiere and Chamonix.
