A number of hiking and forestry trails are off limits from October 29th to December 31st, as Compagnie du Mont Blanc race to get the Aiguille du Midi top ticket open for the winter season.

Popular routes leading to Plan d'Aiguille, Grand Bois, Cascade du Dard, and the Pré du Rocher will be inaccessible to the public for the duration of the works. The Maire of Chamonix has urged hikers, runners and others to heed the signs at trail heads and not venture into the area under the Plain d l'Aiguille until works are complete.

The second section of the famous cable car which connects Chamonix and the summit of the Aiguille du Midi, starting at Plan de l'Aiguille, has suffered a series of problems affecting its cable over the summer months. After closing for the second time this summer in late August, Compagnie du Mont Blanc have given their assurance that the service will be back in operation for the upcoming winter season.
