The president of Club Med has announced in an interview with Le Dauphine newspaper this weekend, that the business in Chamonix will be closing.

Henri Giscard d'Estaing said that the building "is no longer fit for purpose for the families that Club Med is geared towards".

"The structure of the building and the capacity just doesn't make it profitable for the business any more".

Club Med are apparently already in talks with the mayor of St Gervais to move their offer down there. The operation in Chamonix will cease in a year's time, at the end of 2018.

The decision has apparently riled Chamonix's mayor, who had been hoping for an expansion of the club, but the plans weren't adopted.

As to the fate of the building once Club Med has vacated it; more luxury apartments? Another hotel chain or tour operator taking over? We'll have to wait and see.
