The Compagnie du Mont Blanc has announced that the the cable car linking the mid station at Lognan to the top of the Grands Montets will remain closed until at least the February school holidays.

Storm Eleanor caused significant damage to the system. The suspension arm of the cabin which was situated at the top during the storm was damaged by the ice and gale force winds. The arm was twisted such that the cabin cannot now line up on the bearer cables. It was therefore decided that the arm should be removed and taken to the workshop for repairs.

The exact duration of the repair is still being calculated but it is hoped that the cable car will be back in action for the start of the February holidays, which begin on the 10th February.

The rest of the Grands Montets ski area remains open, with the pistes in excellent condition.
