UTMB week in Chamonix has begun. This morning at 09:00 the first wave of ultra trail runners set out from Chamonix on the PTL race, an epic multi-day race of 290km - the longest in the UTMB event.
Unlike some of the other events, the PTL sees teams of 2 or 3 runners competing together over roughly 6 days. They have to sleep out on the mountain, carrying all the necessary kit with them and aim to be back in Chamonix on Sunday 28th August before the cut off time of 151.30 hours (6.3 days). The fastest teams are expected to finish early on Friday evening, 26th August. Track their progress live.
On Wednesday 24th the TDS runners set off from Courmayeur, followed by the OCC on the 25th, then the CCC and the main UTMB race on the 26th.
Follow all the runners live on the UTMB website where you'll also be able to find their anticipated finishing times, so you know when to come and cheer them over the line. In the meantime you can also enjoy browsing the exhibitors stands that are now open to the public in Place Mont Blanc in the centre of Chamonix for the duration of the event.
