Mont Blanc Triathlon launches Half Iron Man event in Passy

A new local Alpine challenge open for insciptions now.

The Mont Blanc Triathlon in Passy has been running at the end of August for 11 years now and is a great event for athletes of many ages and abilities. During this time there has been a variety of events including children’s triathlons for budding athletes from the age of 8, a ‘Sprint’ distance and an Olympic distance race.

This year will see the event extended to two days in order to accommodate the new Half Iron Man, a true Alpine triathlon consisting of a 1900m swim, a 90km cycle with over 2000m of vertical ascent and a 20km run.

The cycle route will take in stunning views of Mont Blanc, passing through traditional mountain villages and along roads traversing the valley. The run will include a lap of the Passy Lake, but not before sending athletes to the Lacs des Illettes, along the Arve river and through the small village of Méribel.

The shorter Sprint triathlon (750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run), and Olympic Distance event (1500m swim, 40km cycle and 10km run) will take place as usual on Saturday 22nd August, with the Sunday reserved for the Half Iron Man.

Inscriptions are open from now right up until the week before the event, so there’s plenty of time to pluck up the courage to get involved!

The atmosphere down at Passy during the Mont-Blanc Triathlon is always very friendly and supportive, whether you’re taking on the challenge for the first time or competing to get a good time. The race couldn’t take place without the hard work of those that volunteer – if you’re interested in helping out with the running of the Triathlon, get in touch with the organisers by clicking on the website link above.
