A South Korean climber sadly died yesterday after falling into a crevasse near the Dome du Gouter.

The 26 year old man was climbing with a friend, also from South Korea, when he fell into the crevasse at around 17:00.

According to the PGHM he wasn't wearing a harness and only had the roped tied around his chest, so when he fell the rope became like a noose, crushing his ribs and suffocating him.

Rescuers tried in vain to save the man's life but were unable to resuscitate him.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
