February is a popular time to ski. The snow is already deep in resort, the days are getting longer and the temperatures are typically a bit warmer than January. The UK half-term weeks generally coincide with similar European school holidays, so Chamonix lay on plenty of additional amusements both on- and off-piste to keep everyone entertained.

There are lots of regular events and parties going on in the bars, hotels and clubs around town, you can check the events calendar for the details on all those. Here we've listed some more special one-off events to keep on your radar.

Après-ski at La Folie Douce

La Folie Douce is well-known all around the Alps for delivering the best après-ski parties in the mountains and Chamonix's venue is no different. Having open in last December, the Folie Douce in Cham centre has already become an après hot spot. Every week they organise themed parties such as the legendary WTF bash on Wednesdays, the popular Back to the 90s on Fridays and their Disco Palace on Mondays. The fun usually starts at 16:00 and there are discounts on beer every day from 15:00.

Night skiing

Want to maximise slope time? Then head over to Les Planards, in the centre of Chamonix, for some night skiing. The ski area's two drag lifts will be open from 17:30 to 21:00 on Wednesdays and the pistes will be floodlit. It’s a great chance for beginners to get some extra practice or for skiers and boarders to do a swap evening, which always results in some hilarious spills. There will also be hot drinks on offer, music blasting through giant speakers and parallel slalom to try.

Family fun

February is synonym with school holidays on the slopes. As hundreds of children and their families descend on the pistes, the Chamonix Valley puts on a show for them. There are lots of activities to keep the little ones entertained on and off the mountain. Les Houches, the most family-friendly of all the resorts in the valley, has a treasure hunt that will take you all around the ski area every Thursday from 11:00 to 16:30, as well as paret sledging – a traditional wooden sledge – on Fridays after the lifts have closed. Over in Chamonix, there will be a torchlit descent organised by ESF on Wednesday, February 20th – vin chaud and hot chocolate included.

Book Things To Do

Run & Skate

The 12th annual Run & Skate race, taking place on February 10th, features three events. The main race is a 14km cross-country ski combined with an 11km trail race, either done alone or in teams of two where each team member tackles one discipline. If cross-country skiing isn’t your thing – but running through the snow is – the 11km trail section is also held as its own race. You can sign up online right up to the day before the race.

Mont-Blanc Base Camp

Ski touring is becoming more and more popular not only among the locals but also the visitors who want to access the powder stashes hidden away from the pistes. For those thinking about giving it a go, Mont-Blanc Base Camp is the best place to start. On Monday, February 25th from 18:00 there will be free ski touring workshops for beginners and experts, including lessons on steep skiing and splitboarding in Les Planards. Several gear manufacturers will also be offering gear tests.
