What's on in Chamonix March 2019

Magic March is here – the skiing is great, the days are longer and warmer, and the madness of the half-term holidays is behind us. There are also plenty of great events on this month.

From tattoo festivals to charity hockey matches, it's a diverse bunch as per usual. In addition to our picks below, make sure you keep an eye on our Events Calendar for a full list of regular events in town.

Ski races

It’s Chamonix so, naturally, there are a few competitive sporting events on this month. On the 16th, L’Oursinette ski touring race will see racers head up from Vallorcine to the top of the gondola. The race covers 6.6km and climbs 740m and is open to anyone 16 years old and over.

Ski at night

Skiing is really good fun so, why stop when the sun goes down? Every Tuesday this month, the cross-country tracks in town will be open for torchlit night Nordic skiing. On March 6th you can also do some light alpine skiing on the Planards beginner slopes which will be floodlit for the occasion.

Snowshoe walks

The Parc de Merlet is Chamonix's wildlife park, where local animals like chamois and marmots live. Closed during the winter, they only open their doors for guided snowshoe walks twice per week, on Tuesdays and Thursday, from 13:00 to 17:00. Small groups of five to seven people will explore the forests above Les Houches and learn more about the valley's fauna. Booking in advance is necessary.

Wine tasting

French wines are well-known all over the world for their exceptional quality and, in Chamonix, you can taste some of the best vintages at the Albert 1er's wine tasting lunches. On Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th, they'll be bringing bottles from the Château Carbonnieux estate in Bordeaux to pair with a delicious Michelin-starred menu.

Parties & food

La Folie Douce attracts hundreds of revellers every evening for their legendary apres-ski parties. In addition to their regular events, this month they're partnering up with local party people Road Block for an evening of Riddems, Beats, Bass and Drums on March 5th.

Sunday the 17th is St Patrick’s day. To celebrate in true Emerald-Isle-style head to the Beckett & Wilde, Chamonix's Irish bar for Guinness and good times. You can replenish your energy stores in preparation for all the partying at Monkey Bar's Brunch Phonics, just a few metres from the Beckett. Delicious brunch, scrumptious mimosas and live music await you from 10:30 to 13:00. Take a look at our Events Calendar for a full list of parties and nights out.
