Check out this What's On over Christmas 2017 in Chamonix

Chamonix is already feeling very festive; lights are going up and the smell of mulled wine is wafting on the air.

There's no better place to celebrate the festivities than a snowy ski resort. Here is our guide of what's on during the Christmas holidays.

Christmas Market

For 13 days the centre of Chamonix will be transformed into a magical Christmas village. Artisans, artists, merchants are coming from far and wide to display and sell their wares. Taste, discover and experience yuletide joy at the dozens of charming wooden cabins, where everything from sweets to special Christmas presents will be on offer. While you saunter through the Christmas village, elves, clowns and all manner of magical characters will sing and dance their way into your heart. Father Christmas will also be there from the 16th to the 24th to meet young and old a like!

Christmas concerts

If you fancy a good sing-song to get into the Christmas spirit then you’ll find plenty of opportunity in Chamonix over the festive period. It all starts with the Chambelles Christmas Concert at the Eglise Reformée (near the train station) on the 19th from 18:00. They will be offering two different performances; the first one is aimed at the whole family, featuring festive cheer, Santa hats and all the Christmas classics with the lovely ladies of the Chambelles choir. Then, from 20:00, it's the adults who are invited while they belt out a few favourite show tunes and yuletide numbers. Both of them are free.

The local music school will also be offering Christmas concerts throughout the valley this week. Then, on the 23rd of December at 20:30 there will be a choral concert by the Harmonie Municipale des Houches at Espace Olca in Les Houches. Free entry.

Father Christmas

Don’t miss your chance to meet the big man and let him know what you’d like in your stocking! He’ll be making a special trip to the Alps, stopping off at VallorcineLes Houches and Chamonix on the 24th of December. His elves, fairies and other magical creatures will accompany him.

Christmas Eve

Many countries celebrate on the 24th rather than on the 25th and with Chamonix being the international town that it is, we get to do both!

The French also have their main festive feast on the 24th and it usually features duck or guinea fowl, seafood and shellfish, figs and chestnuts, cheeses and a chocolate Yule Log. In Les Bossons, the Hotel Aiguille du Midi have a traditional Christmas set menu for only 44€ per person, with grilled sea bass and roast turkey with stuffing and all the trimmings.

For a truly chic Christmas, we are very tempted by the menu at the Michelin-starred Albert 1er Restaurant - six courses of decadent dishes for 110€ per person, including a whole trolley full of Yule logs! They are also offering a special lunchtime menu on the 25th.

Christmas Day

For some folks (OK, mostly Brits) Christmas Day is all about a massive roast lunch with all the trimmings, followed by pudding and as many mince pies as you can manage.

Bighorn Bistro has it covered with a feast of delicious food and drinks throughout the day to suit those with and without children. Beginning with their Christmas Brunch from 10:00 which includes bottomless Bellinis, and following with a traditional turkey roast Christmas Dinner from 17:00. Meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans will all be well-catered for. And remember that they're also open for Christmas Eve Dinner!

Hotel Les Lanchers in Les Praz is offering a delicious sounding and well-priced three-course feast with aperitif on Christmas Day. The menu is international and sophisticated, with red tuna tartar, stuffed chicken and a chocolate and caramel Yule log to get your mouth watering.
