Winter motorway speed limits for Chamonix

Speed restrictions to help control pollution

featured in News & reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

Winter is fast approaching and in an effort to cut pollution levels in the Arve Valley, speed restrictions will be put in place again on the main autoroute blanche from Geneva to Chamonix.

Normally the speed limit in good weather on the motorway is 130 kmph, however in sections on the way to Chamonix it's 110 kmph.

From 1st November 2016 to 31st March 2017 inclusive the speed limit will be reduced even further in some places, from 110 kmph to 90 kmph, reports local paper Le Dauphine.

The sections of motorway with restrictions will be the main A40 from Annemasse to St Gervais le Fayet, the A410 from Contamine-sur-Arve to Avires and the RD19 from Ayze to Marignier.

Normal speed limits will resume again from 1st April 2017.
