After four years of studying in Oxford, Max made the descision to put the UK behind him. He has been in Chamonix since 2013 and isn't hurrying back to England anytime soon.

Max studied French and International Relations at university with this course he was lucky enought to spend a year living and studying in Grenoble. Coming from a farming background, he has always enjoyed an outdoor lifestlye, which meant that his move to Chamonix did not come as much of a shock to his friends and family back in the UK.

Favourite destinations

Living fairly centrally in Europe, has made city breaks very cheap and easy, Barcelona is top of my list for city breaks, the culture, the food and the people are all amazing. Further afield, New Zealand was amazing, I was lucky enough to spend time living with Kiwi families whilst on a rugby tour there, so I got a real sense of the local culture and people.

Travel inspiration

My grandparents have lived in Spain most of my life and visiting them is probably where my travel bug was born. I have developed a habit of following my stomach on holiday, so local cuisine is a huge pull for me, cookery shows and cookbooks give me a lot of travel inspiration.

Memorable travel experience

Finishing a rugby tour with a weekend or relaxation in Queestown was pretty special, made more special eating what I was told would be, "a life changing burger" from Fergburger. Needless to say my life was changed!

Driving down the Las Vegas Strip in a convertable mustang was a pretty cool experience, as was dropping into the Grand Canion in a helicopter.

Destination checklist

I am not one for lying on the beach and doing nothing, don't get me wrong it has it's place, but a beach holiday doing nothing just doesn't float my goat. When choosing a holiday destination I like somewhere that will keep me entertained, be it with culture, food, drink or activities.

Favourite places to eat

Anywhere that is recommended to me by a local, they know best! There is nothing better than finding a hidden gem, full of locals, especially when its looks a little rough around the edges from the outside.

Sports & activities

Skiing is why I moved to Chamonix, so that is my winter pursuit. In the summer, I play rugby, tennis, hiking and a bit of squash.
