Happy New Year!

What a night... the square was as busy as always, with the usual two or three different countdowns. From there it was a short walk to The Pub where Kes Sicknote Clark was laying down some tunes, we had it all (deep breath): Funk/Soul/BigBand/BreakBeat/Latin/House/D&B/HipHop/DubStep /NorthernSoul/BrokenBeat/Reggae/Brazil/Ragga, you name it was playing. I think The Pub have now relaxed into their fernet flow for the season!

From there it was a short stumble to Le Vagabond where, despite not having their usual 48-hour party, a good session was underway and they kept me going to the early hours of New Year's Day. Reports from the Le Podium and Winter Sessions were that it was a very busy night. It was definitely a ‘dance till you drop' affair with some wicked tunes from Jon Kennedy and Colin Russ Read. Already the excitement is building for Norman Jay on the 21st January

Yesterday I finished up in Argentiere and wandered along to the Savoy Bar for some après cider. Magners on tap went down a treat and we had the sweet sound of the Pistey Boys in the background. Those guys seem to be everywhere at the moment and always seems to bring the right tunes with them. We had some Irish jigging, Sultans of Swing and Lady Gaga covers, what more can you ask for. They will back in the Savoy Bar tomorrow night so go and check them out.

This week saw the return of Le Jekyll and Hyde's sell out comedy nights. Tickets are €10 for a standing ticket, €15 for a seat and if you really want to make a night of it they do a special €10 for a homemade pie, which I can tell you from experience are trés tasty! I highly recommend it for a great night out. The next one is on the 10th January and they have Nick Doody and Peter Cain. Nick Doody helps write for shows such as BBC4's Late Edition and Channel 4's FAQ U, 8 Out Of 10 Cats and Friday Night Live. Peter Cain is described as a comedian that actually makes you think, laugh and come away thinking how you can change the world or stick your finger up at it! It's worth booking for comedy night in advance and it is definitely worth the extra for a seated ticket.

Tonight I am going to be heading to O'Byrne's and make the most of the happy hour from 5-6pm and the start of their tapas menu. Plates will be starting from as little as €1. This Sunday they have live music again with the legendary Forse.

Back to work now and while everyone is out and about this week make sure you squeeze in a few snow dances for the snow gods!
