Chamonix Apres Ski Report: 13rd January 2011

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Katy Sunderland, Updated

Hurray, finally some snow has arrived at last! Thanks to all those who did a little snow dance last week, it paid off. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it keeps coming.

I started the week off by heading down to Le Podium on Sunday night to cheer on the Chamonix Angels, Chamonix's women's hockey team. They were playing another local girls team from Aravis. It was a great free night out; make sure you take lots of warm clothes because it gets really cold sat watching. The whole team played outstandingly; unfortunately they lost 5-1. But I will definitely be returning to cheer them on again. There is a professional Chamonix men's league that also plays regularly, and this is also a great night out. Their next match is on the 15th January and starts at 20:30pm, the tickets to watch them are €10. There is always a great atmosphere and on these nights you can make the most of the bar whilst enjoying the game.

After the game finished we hurried along to MBC to warm up. The Micro Brasserie de Chamonix opened in 2002 and serves a range of excellent home brewed beers. It has a brilliant menu as well and is very popular with seasonnaires on Monday nights when they have their famous half price chicken wing night. It's advisable to book a table because they get very busy. I am usually a regular on Monday nights so on Sunday I tucked into my first MBC burger to see if the rumour of ‘best burger in town' was true and I can say it is a well-deserved title... it was trés tasty!

On Monday I managed to get one of the last few tickets for the legendary Jekyll and Hyde comedy nights. We had Nick Doody and Peter Cain entertaining us, my personal favourite was Nick Doody, hilarious! It is on again this Monday and this week there will be three comedians, Marcus Brigstocke, Alun Cochrane and Carey Marx. Buy your tickets early, it sells out fast and splash out the extra for a seated ticket, it's definitely worth it.

If you find yourself finishing a day up at Brevent this week, make sure you pop into Café Kimbo just opposite the lift station. Although it's mostly outside, they have a good canopy and powerful heaters. It is a really cool little café, Pelforth Blonde on tap and teapots of vin chaud, and some delicious sandwiches to tide you over till tea time. Great place to start the après.

Yesterday at The Pub saw the return of the Physi team providing free massage demo's for all those aching muscles out there. So look out for them next week, their flag should be flying high outside The Pub and have the ultimate relaxing après session ever with beer, music and massage.

This Friday sees the return of Electrolove at le Podium, 18:00pm-02:00am. Tickets are €15 in advance (€18 on the door). Playing live there will be some of the biggest names in French electro, Popof (remixes for Daft Punk, Chemical Bros, Moby, Fat Boy Slim) and Elisa do Brasil, Electrobugz, Faces, David Green, D,Vice. The music will be diverse ranging from Drum & Bass through to Gypsy Electro, Dirty Techno etc.

Don't forget tonight there is quiz night at Munster Bar from 21:00pm and Forse are playing live in Bar'Dup from 22:00pm. It's all about Sundays throughout January at La Cantina. Pop down and check out their 4 turntable sets with some of the finest hiphop, breaks, dubstep and dnb tunes!

Have fun this week and I'll bring you more news and gossip next week, adios!
