Chamonix Apres-ski Report: 13th March 2013

Parties galore - St Patricks Day & Chamonix Girls Zone

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Alison Shayler, Chamonix Reporter Updated

Barely have we recovered from the 4 day extravaganza that was the Black Weekend, than we have the shenanigans of St Patrick's Day to contend with this Sunday coming.

Shamrocks will be gaily fluttering above many a bar, people who don't sound in the least bit "Oirish" will be claiming some dubious affiliation to the Emerald Isle, and lots of Guinness will be drunk, whether we actually like the taste of it or not.

It'll all be in full swing over at Munster Bar in Chamonix Sud from 4pm with a free BBQ, live music from The Pistey Boys and a late license until 4am. Laying claim to the title of "Chamonix's No1 Irish Pub" they will be doing everything they can to live up to it - if this includes drinking copious amounts of the black stuff then so be it.

Bar'd Up will be playing Irish music live and loud with K.I.N.D. (no idea what it stands for but it's Kevin Forde and Matias Legon) and gallons of Guinness expertly served by the most handsome and charming Irishman in town (his own description).

The Pub is a dangerous place to celebrate at the best of times, many a "quiet pint" has escalated alarmingly, so expect Sunday to be even more deadly than usual with Fergal's Fernet Fiasco from 8 till late with their resident Irish dancing loon all the way from Dublin. You have been warned.

All the lovely ladies of Chamonix should get themselves over to Brevent on Tuesday for the Chamonix Girls' Zone party, a day of riding, chilling and partying with the Nikita crew starting at 9am at the mid-station. There'll be Miss Airbig and Miss Kicker comps, as well as loads of other things to get involved in, with prizes from Nikita and local sponsors including Zero G, Billabong, Sun Valley, Kana Beach, Sport 2000, Legend'chx, Löle and Boardriders Chamonix. The fun will be filmed by Seventwenty Productions and The Daily Dump Snow Report, so you might even get some awesome footage of yourself doing something cool (or of yourself falling flat on your face), and there will be gift bags for everyone from Nikita and Cooler Magazine. Entry is free but if you want to take part in the ski/snowboard competitions you must register here.

There will be an after-party at the Boardriders store in the centre of Chamonix (yes, it's a shop but it also has a bar, don't panic) at 5:30pm with live music and more fun from the Nikita crew.

Chamonix Girls Zone doesn't stop there though, head over to the Idols & Superstars fancy dress party sponsored by DC at Le Vert the following night (Wednesday 20th March). It all kicks off at 7:30pm with a screening of the footage filmed the previous day by The Daily Dump Snow Report and Seven Twenty Productions, you could be the star of the show and win MISS CHAMONIX GIRLS ZONE 2013!

Book your places now for the delicious meal that will be dished up at 8pm, 20E for 3 courses (vegetarian option on request), limited places so book soon on +33(0)450 53 13 58.

Then, at 10:30pm, LET THE PARTY START!!!! Shake your bootie with Sugarleg and DJ Kate, win a DC Snowboard for the best fancy dress, be in with a chance of getting your hands on lots of other prizes from local sponsors by playing some very silly games. Guys are welcome from 11pm, but only if dressed as girls!

As well as that we also have live music tonight from the Francesco Piu Trio at Le Vert; a blues and jazz combo all the way from Sardinia with a unique sound that includes singing, acoustic guitar, dobro, weissenborn, banjo, lap steel and harmonica. They've been going down a storm at international blues festivals from Memphis to Milan, so don't miss this one-off opportunity to see them right here in little old Chamonix. The concert is free and Le Vert are laying on a special 3 course menu for the evening at 20E or a trio of tapas for 12.50E - book in advance to be sure of getting a table. There will also be free shuttle buses running at half-hour intervals from 7pm onwards from the casino in the centre of Chamonix, groups can make a door-to-door booking by calling Le Vert on +33(0)450 53 13 58.

And... if you've not made it down there yet then head over to MOO Bar by the train station while the Balboas are still in town; they've been rocking the apres-ski every night this week and are playing until Saturday 16th. If you've never danced on a bar, crowd surfed or done the conga in ski boots then this could be your chance - every evening from about 6pm-ish until whenever the guys run out of songs (they know a lot of songs). Click here for a short but very noisy taster of what lies in store >>

I may have to stock up on some extra Berocca to see me through the week ahead, either that or hire a stunt double... Keep an eye on our What's On Calendar for all upcoming events.
