Chamonix Apres Ski Report: 24th April 2013

Summer sun & winter snow in the same week

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Alison Shayler, Chamonix Reporter Updated

Ladies and gentlemen... *drumroll*... I hereby declare rosé season officially open!

We've had every sort of weather that the Alps can throw at us this week, from glorious sunshine and temperatures of 24° to 30cm of fresh snow overnight. We're back to enjoying a mini heatwave at the moment, with the best day of the week looking to be tomorrow (Thursday).

April is a fantastic time of the year when you can go up skiing in the morning, enjoy lunch in the sunshine, then climb, bike, or just chill out with a glass of the afore-mentioned rosé in the afternoon.

The smell of BBQ is already wafting through the air, the Vagabond had all sorts of tasty treats on the grill last night and coming up this weekend is the Rhododendrons BBQ in lovely Les Praz (weather permitting) to mark the closing of the Flegere lifts for this season.

The road bikers have been out in force this week; lycra-clad weekend warriors whizzing past on their way to conquer a col or two while the sun shines. We're all sporting the obligatory spring "tan"; a fetching pink and white pattern of stripy shoulders, raccoon eyes and glowing necklines that caught us out before we remembered the sun cream.

I'd get all the sporty stuff done tomorrow if I were you, as I have a sneaky feeling that Friday might be something of a write-off. Thursday night is the final Full Moon party of the season and it's going to be huge! DJ Cheeba will be doing his thing, alongside Renaud Langlois and Mellow D; body and face painters will turn us all into magical creatures of the night and the photobooth will be there to capture us in all our glory (or to be used as evidence when we claim to have taken it easy...). Fancy dress is, as ever, applauded with the theme this time being hats - the more fabulous and/or freaky the better. A little bird has also been whispering in my ear about some sort of surprise performance of the "risqué" variety, but détails could not (or would not) be confirmed so as not to spoil the surprise, you'll have to be there to find out! The party takes place at White Hub from 11pm and entry is just 10€ with a free drink between midnight and 1am, with kicking out time not until 7am.

So what will this week bring? More snow? More sunshine? More fun... most definitely!
