Chamonix Apres Ski Report: 26th December 2008

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

After succumbing to a combination of flu and cold this week my après ski activities have been sadly limited. However all is not lost because I've had my trusted scouts out and about town poised and ready to report back to me on all of this week's events.

The pick of the week for most of my spies was Sunday night when the bands were out in force across town. For those of you out there not familiar with the main players this season here is a quick rundown:

Hors Piste
Newly reformed and formerly known as The Soul Rats, their new sound is a fusion of Celtic, Reggae and Rock and Roll influences and they are a guaranteed crowd pleaser.

Next Playing:
Friday 2nd-La Terrasse @5pm
Sunday 4th-La Terrasse@10.30

CocaPenny
These boys are new to the Chamonix circuit but have been tirelessly doing the rounds over New Year and have already built up a loyal fan base. The duo bring with them a chilled out Australia vibe and a happy selection of covers to relax to after a day up the mountain.

Next playing:
Friday 2nd-Le Vert
Saturday 3rd-The Monkey

Melvil
A treat for all the senses! These guys appeared on the scene over the Summer and have since taken up the prestigious position as Chambre Neufs après ski band for the winter. They play a great selection of covers with something for everyone even the Eminem fans out there!

Next Playing: Every night at Chambre (apart from Wednesday)

New Years Eve
Thankfully by New Years Eve I was back on my feet and ready for a night to remember. I spent New Years running somewhere in between The Monkey and the main square but made it just in time to enjoy the fireworks and celebrations in the centre where it seemed just about everyone had turned out to welcome in 2009.

It was then a slushy walk to the Podium Bar which was well worth the soggy feet!!The place was packed with Chamonix's finest party goers and DJ's and with several rooms of awesome music (mainly dub step and drum and bass) the party raged into the early hours and was an event for Chamonix to be proud of.

Other events in the coming weeks not to be missed:
Promoting winter sports for girls and with the support of Salomon this year's annual Talents Aiguilles is taking place on Sunday the 11th of January. It's shaping up to be a great day for us ladies with free access up the mountain (not for boys!), a fashion show, free equipment testing and tuition along with music and competitions.

5-8th Jan - To celebrate Chamonix's links with Russia next week is the Moscow Mont Blanc Festival featuring a Photo cross – Participants are given a theme and then compete to deliver the best photos in the allotted time.

Fancy something a little different this evening? Looking for live entertainment, action and a touch of sporting aggression? You can find all this on Saturday night at the ice rink when Chamonix takes on Dijon, Patinoire at 20:30.
