Chamonix Apres Ski Report: 31st December 2010

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Katy Sunderland, Updated

I can't believe a whole week has gone by all ready, I hope everyone had a great Christmas and ate lots of turkey! Despite the travel chaos everywhere it seems everyone has still managed to make it to Cham for the New Year, town is heaving and après life is back in full swing.

If you are wandering through town in the early evening, stop by the LM restaurant, just past the main square. They have a great outdoor bar, good music and tasty gaufre for just €1. A gaufre is like a mini waffle, with toffee stuff in. I've already been three times this week! Live music is back on at La Terrasse everyday now and their happy hour is starting from 4pm. Last night there was an awesome duo playing and some very interesting dancing going on. Make sure you get in early for 1 litre jugs of beer for €5 before 5pm.

I took a trip down to South Bar on Tuesday night to take advantage of their new seasonnaire prices. If you have your season pass with you they are now doing pitchers for €7.50, wine €2 a glass and shots for €2 all night. The Pistey Boys were playing again and they really got the crowd going. There a few new additions to the band for a few songs, (myself included) and the night finished up with some table dancing on a very wobbly table. A good place to keep in mind for New Year as there is no cover charge and Jimbo and Daz are back in tonight from 10pm.

Here is a quick low down on what is happening and where for tonight. Other places that are not charging a cover charge are Monkey Bar, Le Derapage, Bard'up and Le Vagabond. Advice would be to get to these places early as they fill up quick and are often hard to get into later on. A good hit for actually ringing in the New Year is the square in town. It is always very busy, usually two different countdowns, fireworks galore and lots of bangers! It has a cracking atmosphere and is a great starting place for the night.

Of course tonight is a big night for the Winter Sessions. The doors don't open till midnight which means everyone can make the most of the count down in the square. Kick starting 2011 will be none other than Grand Central's most talented 'Jon Kennedy'. Bringing the classics will be Colin 'Russ' Read, the legend from Bumpertrunk as well as Pop & Skred, Joe V, Corin Martin. Winter Sessions have pulled together some of the biggest sound systems in the valley and it will definitely be a sensational night. Tickets for this event are limited so don't miss out.
If you want to make a night of it Le Vert have teamed together with the winter sessions and are running a NYE Buffet that includes wine + bubbly + entry to Winter Sessions. This includes shuttle busses to Le Podium, all for the small sum of 50 € (reservations recommended).

So a few more hours of work to get through and then it'll be time to get the dancing shoes on, Happy New Year to you all, have a great night tonight, see you in the square for the countdown! See you next year!
