Chamonix Apres Ski Report: 31st March 2011

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Katy Sunderland, Updated

Well another week has flown by and just when we we're giving up hope on the snow along comes some more. It's been top bins all week at Grand Montet.

Last weekend was spent celebrating my other half's birthday; we spent the birthday eve in Le Pub and celebrated at midnight with a few cheeky Branca Menta's. For those of you that haven't tried one yet you are missing out. It is a must for anyone visiting Chamonix. Don't mix it up with Fernet Branca as one is very tasty and the other isn't!

Sunday morning we headed to Le Jekyll for a birthday brunch and to check out their new morning menu. New this season Le Jekyll has been opening on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 10:00am – 13:00pm for that much needed fry up fix!! They cater for all tastes with a healthy option of yoghurt, mixed berries, honey, bananas and muesli as well as butties, full fry ups and eggs benedict's. Fifteen of us turned up for brunch and hats off to the chef for the number of poached eggs he ended up doing!

We did a little tour round a few of our favourite haunts in the evening and as any big night does we ended up popping along to Le Garage for a little boogie at the end of night. It was my first time for this season and it was great fun. It was seasonnaires night and we took advantage of some free champagne. A great end to the birthday celebrations.

This week we have the winter sessions to look forward to on Friday night, a very important one as it is a fundraiser for the Japan Red Cross. Tickets are €10 and €5 from each ticket will be donated to the Japan Red Cross, as well as money raised from the tombola.

Next week also sees the return of Mission-Women of Winter to Chamonix. After their successful debut last season the event is taking place again on the 8th and 10th April. This season they have created two different package options, a social and an adventure option! For the adventure group the focus will be on gaining back-country knowledge and skills, a chance for hands on practical experiences set in the stunning surroundings of the Argentiere Glacier, Chamonix, France. For the social group there will be coaching sessions and free ski's to demo. As well as the mountain activities there will be obviously be lots of après activities too with the opening party being hosted by Le Vert on the Friday night and the closing party at the Rusticana in Argentiere. For more information visit www.missionwow.org.

Have a great week!
