Chamonix Activity Report: 8th August 2004

featured in Activity reviews Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

There goes another week that was! It has been a fairly quiet week for us for some reason. The weather has been a little off which has meant fewer days out and about.

Town is busy as it is obviously high season.

The Compagnie du Mont Blanc had another mishap (they dropped the tow-cable in spring whilst carrying out repairs) whilst testing the Aiguille de Midi cable-car. As part of a regular routine maintenance check the operator at the mid station didn't notice the arrival of the cabin - travelling at over 20km/h. It is going to be several weeks before repairs are completed although there remain other ways up and the 2nd stage mid station to the top of the Aiguille has re-opened.

Thursday night we ended up in Argentiere with some friends from Natives (Season workers website) who I did my first season with back in Courchevel. We also met up with Planet Subzero, if you are thinking of doing a season and need accommodation these guys have a few rooms left for this winter. We ended up paying a visit to La Rusticana and The Office Bar as well. Most enjoyable.

Apart from that night out it has been mainly a bit of running and getting down to the gym. We are planing a rafting trip for this coming week - we'll let you know how it goes.

Till the next time, have fun.
