La Terrasse Brunch Review

A hearty breakfast served daily between 09:30 and 14:00

Now it may seem strange to many people on holiday, especially the Brits and Americans, that France are not a nation known for their good breakfast! At least, not the way we like it...a long lazy brunch over eggs benedict and pancakes, or a full English breakfast.

And so we have come to treasure those places in Chamonix that treat us to a delicious breakfast, especially one that is served well into the afternoon! Now La Terrasse, in the heart of Chamonix, has joined that elite group and is offering up a veritable treat for breakfast, served daily between 09:30 and 14:00.

Friday brunch is always a bit of a treat...an early lunch break from the office and the chance to enjoy some sunshine in the centre of town - La Terrasse was the perfect choice. The new decor is light and airy, with several welcoming comfy sofas and chairs, and a good mix of both local clientèle and tourists.

After a quick glance at the menu, the decision wasn't a hard one for me or my colleague; a veggie breakfast for me and the 'Fuller' English for my friend. The Full English consists of the usual suspects, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, eggs (your choice of fried, poached or scrambled), tomato, baked beans and hash brown...and the 'Fuller' English is all of that plus a little extra of each, a fruit juice and a tea or coffee. My veggie breakfast was a bit of a twist on the traditional, so instead of a veggie sausage they were offering roasted butternut squash.

Also on the menu were croissants, pain au chocolate, eggs on toast and a continental breakfast consisting of baguette, croissant, jam, orange juice, plus tea or coffee. The staff also mentioned that were planning to add an eggs benedict to the menu in the coming weeks...

So, we both opted for poached eggs with our breakfast (because it's the kind that you never cook for yourself at home!) then we sat back with a coffee and waited for our food to arrive. We didn't have to wait long before the plates were brought out and we started to tuck in. There is something really satisfying about having a full breakfast at midday, and there were plenty of envious eyes around the room.

The addition of the roasted butternut squash to the breakfast was genius; I almost felt as though I were in some trendy east end café in London with this fresh change to a traditional meal. The entire meal felt very fresh, and pretty healthy too. Nothing was over cooked or covered in grease and in fact the mushrooms in particular were cooked to perfection...no squeaky, wet mushrooms here!

So with our appetites sated we made our way back to the office with smiles on our faces. It's great to think that such a beautiful venue, right in the heart of Chamonix town, will be open all day and offering coffee, breakfast, dinner, drinks , good live music and of course their ever-famous Tequilla Tuesday party night. I think I'll be back in for breakfast again this week!
