Monkey Restaurant Review

Great value meal deals & delicious burgers

featured in Restaurant reviews Author Pam Williamson, Chamonix Editor Updated

The 10€ Lunch Break at Monkey was too good to pass up! Meeting my friend on my lunch hour, just as he came down from a quick ski up the midi, meant that it was not only a perfect location but a great deal too!

Fries, a burger and a drink all for just 10€! In the past Monkey has perhaps been better known for its wild aprés rather than its food, however this winter they have re-vamped their menus and brought out a number of incentives to entice people in to sample their dishes.

The lunch crowd in the bar, and the general vibe, is super relaxed, with families and kids, couples, locals propping up the bar and folk eating alone, there is a real mix of people there enjoying the sunny terrace, free wifi, relaxed music, good coffee and of course the 'Lunch Break' deal.

With a list of some 8 or so burgers to choose from I went straight for the vegetarian option, The Marilyn Munroe - grilled halloumi with roast peppers, aubergine and a salsa with tomatoes, chilly and lime. My friend on the other hand decided to try The Pineapple Express, a really nice twist on a Hawaiian style burger - a fillet of breaded chicken, grilled bacon, grilled pineapple, fried onions and BBQ sauce.

Both arrived in soft white buns with a side of fries and some salad. Home made and cooked fresh in the kitchen by head chef Stef Sofroniou and his team, the burgers not only looked great but tasted amazing too! I have pretty much tried all the veggie burgers in the Chamonix Valley...at least it seems that way!...in my quest fore the perfect burger, and this was by far the most satisfying one yet! Not too much bread to burger ratio, a bit of resistance when you bite and delicious grilled veg that didn't overpower the burger. Plus it's always a real treat to get halloumi in France, as it's certainly not a common occurrence.

And a few words from our High Mountain reporter Joel on his Pineapple Express, "The chicken was cooked perfectly and was crispy. The bbq sauce and pineapple are a great combo...chips are their usual tastiness!! The Pineapple Express is a must eat burger!"

So with plenty of burger options to choose from, and some seriously tasty chips and a drink to wash it all down, you'll find it hard to get this kind of deal elsewhere in Chamonix. The 'Lunch Break' is on offer every weekday lunch from 12:00 until 15:00.
