Shona Tate is the co-director of BASS Chamonix & BASS Megeve ski schools. Shona is an Alpine Trainer for the Irish Association of Snowsports Instructors (IASI), an Alpine Trainer for the British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI) and a tutor for Snowsport Scotland (SSS). Shona is a former member of the Scottish Alpine Ski Team. She holds the BASI International Ski Teacher Diploma (ISTD) with full French Equivalence.
Shona was brought up in a skiing family, her parents were instructors in Scotland and her older brother was a keen racer. Soon she followed her brother around the mountain hot on his heels in all terrain and in all typical Scottish weather!
After spending several years in the Scottish Ski Team in the mid 80’s she gained her first instructor qualification, which enabled her to teach on artificial slopes. Loving the sport and loving teaching is what brought Shona & her husband Derek (Co director of BASS Chamonix & Megeve) to Chamonix, an alpine town steeped in skiing and mountaineering history. “Everyone in Chamonix shares the same passion for the mountains & the outdoors, we are one big family.”
Chamonix offers some very varied terrain and is suitable for all levels of skiers. Knowing where to go for your level is key to the enjoyment of your skiing holiday. Getting the basics right from the very beginning and developing these as you progress is a clear focus for Shona.
Whether you are learning for the very first time, have some quirks in your skiing performance or you are an advanced skier Shona can help you make changes to make skiing less effort and more enjoyable to get round the pistes and off piste.
