Chamonix Snow Report: 11th February 2014

No fun in the Foehn, but sun is back in Chamonix

We have had a varied few days here in Chamonix with today bringing the end of the ferocious Foehn wind, a dusting of snow overnight and a break in the clouds this afternoon..

Saturday was a bright day in between a few loitering clouds, with around 30cm fresh powder the guys made it up the hill in various parts of the valley.

Megan was riding Flegere on Saturday morning..
"Index didn't open first thing but the tree runs under the Evettes were good. Once the Index opened, the front face under the lift got tracked very quickly but there is always plenty of off-piste to do elsewhere. The wind picked up in late in the afternoon up high and visibility dropped, spelling home time..."

Ellie managed to get some lines in on both GM & Le Tour on Saturday, where laps of the Tete de Balme lift were in order
conditions to ensure endless powder runs.

Jemima made the sensible choice of heading to Les Houches, knowing what the queues can be like at GM on  a powder day.
Rewarded with quiet pistes and untouched powder between the trees, Jemima also headed back on Sunday knowing the weather was due to close in, fortunately it brightened up in the afternoon and even with a few sketchy parts lower down the snow was still in pretty good condition.

There is currently 195cm of snow at the top of Grands Montets, 170cm at Flegere, 150cm at Balme and 160cm at Les Houches.
The avalanche risk remains at a 3/5.
A light dusting is expected overnight before a more active disturbance due to hit Chamonix late Thursday/Friday.
