Chamonix Snow Report: 15th December 2003

featured in Snow report Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

At last there is sign of winter coming. The autumn has been very mild and whilst we were teased with some early snowfalls temperatures have finally dropped and there is some frozen white stuff in the air.

Few pistes and lifts are open, meaning the only place with [limited] skiing is the Grands Montets. The Bochard and Marmottons lifts are open only at the weekends for the moment, and the Lognan all week - giving access to a few runs and some off-piste.

The snow cover is reasonable, if a little 'hard'. The good news is that it is deep enough to cover the rocks and it is very quiet so there are no queues.

The remaining lifts/ski areas are closed for repair and maintenance work so no skiing yet, expected opening is after 15th December.
