Chamonix Snow Report: 15th November 2004

featured in Snow report Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

As the build up to winter continues the snow is yet to come. Temperatures have been cold, too cold for snow, and the general discussion is turning to trying to remember what was happening with the weather this time last year.

The general consensus is that last year it snowed in October and November but that this then all melted by December when it snowed again. Everyone is now hoping that it is just going to snow massively and stay for a very long time!

As a result of the low snow levels skiing didn't open on Les Grands Montets this weekend as was a possibility outlined by the lift company (depending on the conditions).

Meanwhile work progresses on the lift systems. The Aiguille du Midi cable-car is out of action whilst the main cables are replaced. The new gondola for Vallorcine is coming along nicely. The Brevent lift has now re-opened (not for skiing), as has the Flegere.

Town itself is fairly quiet at the moment, with quite a few shops now closed for a holiday or refurbishing. Weekends are busier, certainly if you know which bars to head to!
