Chamonix Snow Report: 17th December 2004

featured in Snow report Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

At last the snow has started to fall. Late last night the first snowflakes for several weeks bravely formed themselves, and this morning there has been a light covering of a couple of inches on the tops of the slopes - but still no massive dump.

The weather forecast was for major snow between the 18th and 20th - good timing for the start of the holiday season, although it looks like we are just having a taster of things to come for the moment. The first piste have opened, aided by the snow cannons.

We are placing our money on Sunday as the big fall.... watch out!

We will be keeping this Chamonix snow report updated often during the season, but if you want even more up-to-date news on the ski conditions, why not sign up for our Dump Alert? We'll email you each time it snows enough to significantly change the skiing conditions. It's great to know that the snow is falling in the run-up to your holiday, and it might even allow you to book a last-minute weekend when the snow is particularly good. The service is free, and you can unsubscribe whenever you like.
