Chamonix Snow Report: 1st January 2004

featured in Snow report Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope you all had a good one.

I'll keep things brief, especially as it has started snow during the late afternoon and anything I do write about the conditions will be obselete by the time the lifts open in the morning! The snow was generally good though more fresh stuff is always welcome.

The day started out clear for anyone who was able to make it up in time, though it hasn't been brilliant sunshine (probably a good thing as bright lights would have hurt sore eyes!) and things have gradually deteriorated during the afternoon. Temperatures feel colder than they are as there is a fair amount of moisture/dampness in the air. Things seem set to remain cold and snowy tomorrow.

The other other good news is that 11km of cross-country trails are now open and the Vallée Blanche has been open for just over a week now.
