Chamonix Snow Report: 20th March 2004

featured in Snow report Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

It is hard to write too positively about the conditions today as we struggled in the 'cement' our legs got tired really fast. The temperatures have been so warm that the snow is very heavy up top. The clouds were in for the most part of the day and so visibility and flat light ruled.

Ironically the best run of the day was down from Lognan where the snow was sufficiently melted to be watery which meant you could force through much more easily. I would even go so far as to say I enjoyed it. What is need is some freeezing up top - to harden up the snow, or for it to get wetter!

We are hoping for some snow tomorrow to cool things off a little and to cover over the current horrible stuff.

Sorry, not a very positive report. But you can't have it good all the time. Luckily Chamonix has lots of other things going on - I ended up going to the gym for a couple of hours this evening, and some other friends of mine treated themselves to a massage and a bit of R&R.

It is no longer possible to ski back to the town (unless you want a rough ride) but nevermind.

Can't imagine there is any cross-country left, but the according to official sources there is.

The PanoChamCam is now fully operational...we have some great images now available on the site webcams index. We have a few more on their way....
