Chamonix Snow Report: 22nd February 2011

featured in Snow report Author Kieran Sharp, Updated

I must say it's great to have lots of fresh pow in the valley, and with a lot more snow on the forecast for the end of this week everyone who currently resides in this wonderful valley or will soon be to make a holiday here, is feeling a huge amount of joy in anticipation of this larger amount of inevitable snow to fall.

It's been so long since any of us here have felt what new snow feels like we almost forgot! After an absolutely epic day of fresh pow, soft landings everyone we knew decided to go slightly crazy! A few breakages where felt, stretched ligaments and other injuries. I actually pulled my shoulder out a little in excitement of being able to land in seemingly soft pow. If you take in to account the fact we haven't had any decent amount of snow fall in the valley in the past two months, you can imagine that the off piste has been a getting so moguly that you can see them from orbiting the planet, and there are many rocks poking through, lightly covered by around 20cm of fresh yet unstable snow that hasn't fully bonded to its lower layers.

Grand Montets was surely the place to head yesterday, to which most of the valley decided to descend upon. However there were just as good conditions being felt all over the valley. Even in white out conditions people where getting up to experience the soft lovely white stuff which fell all over Chamonix. We did find that people got quite excited about the snow that fell on the day it did and even with white out conditions most decided to head up and eat all the powder they could fill their bellies with, which meant that the next clear day was a bit tracked already, but not to worry now with more snow seriously forecasted this week compared to previous jokes over the past two months we shall be having lots and lots of pleasurable moments.

Last week's snow dance brought a lot of snow to the Italian side of the valley but this week it should be brought to your attention that we got all of it, and Italy has missed out, so try to stay over this side if you can as there are definitely a lot of snow systems heading in to the valley just in time for the majority of holiday makers entering the valley!

If you are pout this week and you are looking to get eh most out of the conditions, find some of the best spots to ride/jib and have a good time, then get in touch with your holiday rep for ski/snowboarding hosting. Most chalet companies will offer ski hosting but if you are looking for the snowboard side of things then get in touch with Blue Mile Snowsports on www.bluemilesnowsports.com for a reasonably good time!
