Chamonix Snow Report: 25th December 2004
Yesterday we went to Les Grands Montets for a few runs, as some of the higher lifts (Bochard and Herse) were open. We were hoping to get into the Lavancher bowl, but there were ropes blocking entry; although a few tracks leading in showed that some were feeling lucky. We tried the top of the run from the Herse instead but it had already grown giant moguls from hell, with the rest of it a stone and rock assault course.
Back to Brevent today. The cable car to the top has finally opened allowing us to sample the dubious, rocky pleasures of the Charles Bozon. It really needs some more snow, which will hopefully be remedied tonight. As we left Brevent at 3pm it had just started snowing lightly up at Plan Praz although it wasn't snowing back at the house in town.
The blue runs off the Parsa chair have twigs and brown patches showing through but aren't too badly covered considering we've only had one real snowfall. The snow itself is still good for carving on the pistes and the crowds seem to have stayed away this Christmas giving plenty of room to lay down sweeping turns. Friends warned us that the runs from the newly opened Col Cornu were rocky too. Don't be tempted to ride the home run down from Plan Praz yet as it's also rocky and not recommended if you want to have any base left.
The weather is overcast now and we're just hoping it's going to start snowing. One good dump is all it needs!
