Chamonix Snow Report: 27th December 2013

A big dump of snow on Boxing Day with more snow due on Sunday

featured in Snow report Author Ellie Mahoney, Chamonix Editor Updated

Just as we were polishing off our Christmas dinners the rain turned to snow and dumped a good lot of snow down on us in time for Boxing Day. Conditions yesterday were a little overcast, but today has been a whole different kettle of fish...

We woke up to blue skies and sunshine this morning, so it's no surprise that the ski buses and car parks at the lift stations have been rammed full of eager people trying to get up the mountain as quickly as possible!

Grands Montets has seen huge queues of holiday makers and locals keen to get up on the top bin since it was closed yesterday. Lorne got there early but still had to wait until 10am to get his first run in. He reports a good 40-50cm at the very top of GM and a few areas that were relatively untouched where he managed to get some fresh tracks.

High Mountain Guides were also at Grands Montets and enjoyed a good long ski down from the top towards the Argentiere Glacier and then back onto the home run where they had light fluffy snow all the way to the Pierre a Ric.

Meanwhile over at Brevent and Flegere the liaison is open. There could do with being another dump to top up the pistes and we're still waiting for the telecabin at Flegere to be finished, which should hopefully be tomorrow

Les Houches still sounds like it needs another dump to cover over patches of ice and moguls that Sam found today. The good news is that more snow is on the way... Take a look at the latest weather forecast which is promising another 13-14cm overnight Saturday to Sunday.

See if you can spot any of your #Chamonix Instagrams above :-)
