Chamonix Snow Report: 29th October 2010

featured in Snow report Author Kieran Sharp, Updated

Its definitely looking a lot more wintery here in Chamonix with the first significant snow fall of the fast approaching winter season already fallen. With some lovely cold temperatures and another drop in temperature predicted soon there is a lot of talk in the valley about riding in the very near future!

The lovely people at the compangnie du Mont Blanc have once again come up with a very large area ski pass deal! The Mont Blanc unlimited pass which is currently being sold at discounted prices for the season and annual tariffs, will once again cover Courmeyeur in Italy, Verbier and the entire 4 valleys in Switzerland and all the mountains in the Chamonix valley!

The benefits of purchasing one of the pre-season ski pass deals is that potentially you could well be snowboarding or skiing next weekend! Verbier will be opening its lifts during the month of November for the weekends then full operation from the first week of December (snow permitting). There will only be a few pistes open, but anything you can get at this time of year is so worth it!

Depending on how long you visit Chamonix it could be worth your while purchasing a season pass at this discounted rate as it will give you the freedom and motivation to get out a few more times, weekends and surprise flight deal weeks or days off. Check out the rates and see if it works out a good deal for you: http://www.compagniedumontblanc.fr/pages/skipass_season_annual_chamonix_gb.html

Right now is still a good time to be out there are number of things you can still do, although bringing a couple of extra layers would be a very good choice. Climbing although the rock is fairly cold is a good choice for some of the low down crags and with no-one around you get the walls to yourself! Hiking is always a good option and it's great to be out and witness the seasons change with all the mixed colours of autumn and winter around.

Mountain biking off road at the moment isn't such a good idea as under the trees holds a good few snow patches. However this time of year the temperature can still swing back and forth a bit, leaving the possibility like last year where it was possible to snowboard in the morning and mountain bike lower down in the afternoon all in Verbier!

So with Halloween parties happening this weekend, first skiing and snowboarding possibilities the following one, it really is at least time to start thinking about getting out here, with summer and winter activities possible throughout the valley.
