Finishing the week on a high, and more snow on its way

The end to a week of sunshine, fresh snow and sub-zero temperatures here in Chamonix. It last snowed on the 27th, bringing 30cm of snow whilst more snow is forecast on Sunday which will be a great welcome to those arriving this week.

Ellie made it up to Brevent & Flegere today to scope out the conditions ahead of tomorrows Freeride World Tour Qualifier.
"It's beautifully sunny and the pistes are looking and feeling good. A lot less windy than yesterday so skiing was a real pleasure today."
Angus from Local CHX was up Flegere today, "still nice stashes to be had of Floria and in the Lachenal bowl, even where it is skied the snow is soft and surprisingly light. Anything that gets to much sun and is lower was obviously a bit heavier."

On the upper slopes there is up to 190cm of snow on the Grands Montets and down at the bottom of Les Houches has around 60cm of snow. The avalanche risk is still considerable with a 3/5 above 2000m and 2/5 below  below 2000m.

Both Joel Evans and Dave Searle made it down the Couloir Rectiligne this week, which is an off-piste route from the summit of Grands Montets.
Dave "opened the Couloir Rectiligne in perfect knee deep snow" before heading to the Aiguille du Midi "for a fast, super fun Grande Envers".
Joel got down the couloir later on as "the snow was still pretty soft but well tracked out. There was the occasional area of untracked powder on the sides that was good fun. After completing the couloir we were both pleased to have skied it reasonably well and saw it as training for when conditions are not perfect. The snow on the lower part of the Pas du Chevre was still soft and untracked but it did feel a bit wet."

If you fancy an off-piste adventure then check out what the local guides and ski schools have on offer.
