Chamonix Snow Report: 4th April 2014

Conditions on and off piste in Chamonix

featured in Snow report Author Robin Deering, Chamonix Editor Updated

End of the penultimate week for most of the ski areas here in Chamonix and a dusting of snow is forecast overnight.

On piste Lorne has been skiing up on Brevent today on some soft & heavy snow on and off piste;
"The pistes were quiet and in excellent soft condition, and the off piste was skiable but very heavy towards 1pm. Snow off the top lifts was by far the best but there are a lot of side-hits and gaps to find beside the lower pistes. The airbag is still up and running so I got a run on it, for a mandatory backflip as always on the very steep kicker; no queues when we were there so have a go if you’re passing by."

Off-piste Joel hiked up the Petit Mont Blanc Couloir where he says:
"The snow was perfect despite the last 100m being a little crap. I stopped a little below the boys who continued to very near to where the couloir tops out. Perfect chalky powder awaited us and after a couple of jump turns we got a good feel of the conditions and we made some quick tight turns in the narrow sections and we opened up some fast aggressive ‘freeride’ turns where it widened. 700m of steep couloir later and we were back on the Miage."
