Chamonix Snow Report: 4th May 2010

So we have the welcome arrival of more snow in the valley, however it wasn't well timed for the end of season party on the hill, free ride days. The party didn't have its normal crazy but for those that got up the hill had a good time enjoying some of the festivities put on for the day.

Up high there has been a fair amount of snow and with much less people around you pretty much guaranteed to get some fresh lines! The freezing level is pretty much sat on the mid station of Grand Montets and with only one run below this height its going to be good for the last week of the season. We got up the hill fairly late yesterday for the party as our motivation was fairly low with a lot of rain falling in the valley, but we got ourselves together and in the mood to party!

The usual wing suit flyers and other aerial displays didn't happen this year due to the weather but there was the usual rail competition and water slide where the daring few risked wetness, humiliation and hyperthermia for the chance and getting across the pool of water and spraying the crowd with heavy slushy snow! There was a good bit of dancing and the enthusiastic came in fancy dress for the chance at winning some great prizes! The amazingly long rail was out and a few where giving it a go but not many made it all the way as they where picking up so much speed on the rail it was hard for them to hold on! The end of the day and on the dispersal of the few that made it up the hill for the party we decided to give the home run one last go! It was very patchy and quit a few rocks where popping their heads out but it was a fun run down and challenging with necessary ollies over dirt and stone patches! The home run hasn't been pisted for a while so it was fairly bumpy as well but to give the run one last seeing to was a good way to end the day and probably the season on this route.

Despite the rain down low the Office bar in Argentiere still put there BBQ on but not out on their terrace! So we filled our bellies with some of the nicest burgers in town, while partaking in a fair few beers with the likes of Bodizapha playing live music for the first part of the evening followed by DJ Bullet-Proof rocking out the tunes well in to the early hours of the morning! So the masses awake today with some fuzzy heads but after a good party and a good season. It's the last week of the Grand Montets now so there is still a few days of riding left so its now that we start to look at the summer activity possibilities, and once the low down rain has stopped we will no doubt be starting to have some summer fun!

Check out what to do around town once the lifts have closed with our Apres Ski Report - a weekly round up of what's hot and where to party in Chamonix!
