Piste skiing at Le Tour...better than expected!

featured in Snow report Author Pam Williamson, Chamonix Editor Updated

With the weekend weather not looking amazing it was hard to get inspired to get out on my snowboard...however, it was the perfect opportunity to get the skis out and hit the pistes for a bit of much needed technique practice!

After enjoying a lazy morning I met my friend on the bus at noon and we made our way right through the valley up to Le Tour, hoping for a few less people and some gentle slopes. And that is exactly what we got!

Despite the flat light the pistes felt good. The warmer weather had softened them up so they were much more forgiving that we had anticipated. Although they are starting to get a bit scraped in places, there is enough coverage right now to have them well groomed and to really enjoy some big carving turns - perfect for me to practice skiing at speed (well...it felt pretty fast to me!).

The entire Le Tour area has been quite wind affected but at least the warmer temperatures have kept the snow soft off piste...but with a fair amount of shrubbery on show! For us it was more of an afternoon to enjoy the quiet pistes and a nice hot chocolate.

With the February holidays now in full swing the pistes are likely to be a bit busier during the week and there is no doubt that we could use some more snow. However, if you just want to cruise the pistes then conditions are great right now. Or if that sounds a bit boring then why not swap disciplines for the day - if you snowboard then get those planks on and ski, and if you ski then give the thigh busting telemarking a go! Plenty of fun to be had while we wait for more snow to arrive...fingers crossed.
