Lots of snow clearing for Chamonix
Finally some sun for Chamonix
180cm of snow in the past week, road closures, evacuation orders, maximum avalanche risk. Last week was interesting to say the least.
The clouds finally parted on Wednesday, giving us our first sunny day for a while. A high freezing level meant that the snow was on the heavier side. But conditions on the piste were fantastic.
The amount of snow is ridiculous and it's like a completely different ski area compared to the last few years. Pisteurs and mountain workers could be seen shoveling and snow clearing all over the mountain. Avalanches risk was at 3/5 and there was a lot of avalanches debris strewn across the mountain. Whether natural or man-made, it signifies significant instability in the snowpack.
The forecast is for a little bit of snow on Friday and a mostly clear weekend.
