Strong start to magic March in Chamonix
Things are shaping up nicely at Grands Montets.
After a week marked with extreme temperature fluctuations, it's started snowing properly in Chamonix. We went up to Grands Montets, cautiously optimistic about what we'd find.
People were reporting decent conditions on Thursday, and with snow forecast to start in the morning, we hoped we'd find some nice snow. We arrived too early and it was a little crusty underneath but it got better. With more snow coming more or less every day for the next week, conditions should be nice in the days to come.
With the new snow and strong winds, the avalanche risk will likely go up as will the nature of the avalanche problems. Make sure to check the latest bulletin before you head off-piste.
