In a release from the Director of the Aiguille du Midi, Laurent Berger, mountaineers are advised to take heed of the safety measures and restrictions outlined below, as construction work on the Aiguille du Midi takes place.

Various refurbishment projects are already under way or are about to begin this autumn at the Aiguille du Midi. In order to guarantee the safety of both visitors & mountaineers, the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc has to impose the following restrictions :

1. 1 Replacement of the elevator to the summit terrace
As of the 15th September 2014, the work to replace the present single elevator with a double cabin lift will be undertaken. This operation requires rock clearance in the present lift shaft.

1. 2 Replacement of the tractor cable of the Panoramic Mont-Blanc gondola
As of the 11th September 2014 & for an expected period of 8 weeks, the operation to replace the tractor cable of the Panoramic Mont-Blanc gondola, linking the Aiguille du Midi to the Pointe Helbronner will take place. For safety reasons linked to this operation & for its duration, the "Rébuffat" walk ways & terraces on the southern face of the central buttress will be closed to the public. This area will be used for hauling the cables & their splicing.
Mountaineers wishing to climb routes on the South face of the Aiguille du Midi may on not complete their routes on the terraces.

For similar safety reasons, it is advisable not to linger under the cables for the length of the gondola up to & including the Pointe Helbronner throughout the operation.

1. 3 Construction of the return gallery (the Tube) on the Central buttress
The building work continues on the return gallery, linking the "Rébuffat" terraces to the Mont-Blanc wing. The safety perimeter, already established below this area, remains in place until the end of the building work, provisionally programmed for spring 2016.

Thank you for your understanding & please respect scrupulously the safety rules as above.
