2 Mountaineers Rescued After 3 Nights in the Vallot Refuge
Climbers trapped at altitude due to bad weather conditions
Two French mountaineers are now safely back in Chamonix after spending an unplanned few nights in the Vallot refuge at 4362 metres.
On Saturday morning they had attempted to finish their ascent of Mont Blanc, but bad weather forced them to take shelter at the refuge, which lies between the Dome du Gouter & Mont Blanc summit.
The two men, a father and son, had to take refuge in the unmanned and basically equipped shelter, rationing what little food and water they had left.
The PGHM were unable to rescue the men until a break in the weather yesterday morning, but had been checking in on the men three times a day by telephone. They were brought safely back to Chamonix yesterday, hungry and thirsty, but otherwise OK.
