The central library in Chamonix is set to re-open its doors after a massive refurbishment, to the tune of 1 million euros.

A hub of all things Chamonix, the library contains more than 70,000 books, CD's, magazines, games, CD-Roms, with 800 works solely dedicated to mountaineering and skiing.

Inside you can also find historical records, documents on folk art, geography, literature, art and every day life in Chamonix and the surrounding area including the Valais and the Aosta Valley

The renovation work will see the building become more energy efficient and eco-friendly, as well as having better access and redesigned interiors.

The library (médiathèque) is set to re-open on the 5th February.
