As well as the ongoing work to replace the lifts at the very top of the Aiguille du Midi, giving access to the Step into the Void, the souvenir shop is now going to be getting a makeover too.

Work on the souvenir shop at the top of the Aiguille du Midi will start in September this year and take around 3 months to complete.

It's notoriously hard to do any work at this altitude, as the delay to the summit terrace and new lifts have already proven.

The new shop interior, commissioned from Richard Bagur Architects Practice, will be mostly pre-assembled off site before being brought to the top of the Midi via the cable cars. Weather permitting the shop will re-open in December 2015.

The opening of the two new lifts to the summit terrace is scheduled to be at the end of June this year.
